Dave is a largely self educated photographer. He has been working at learning his craft for nearly 50 years. Much of Dave's work is serial in nature, the entries in this show are a prime example. They are from a series entitled, "The Canoe." The canoe had been chained to a tree on the banks of the Mohawk for a couple of years when Dave started photographing it in January of 2016. On some occasions the canoe was upright, on others it had been turned over. One day in March of 2017 the tree it was chained to broke off three or four feet off the ground. Snow and ice came and went. The river rose and fell. In early April 2017 the water rose to the top of the tree and the canoe disappeared. One may have thought that the canoe rose with the water until its chain cleared the stump freeing it to drift downstream. But when the water fell back below the bank top, the chain and padlock were still around the stump. The torrent of rushing water so battered the canoe that it ripped the thwart out of the canoe.
