In the era of his childhood, black and white ruled the day. It was ever present in media and print and that influence comes through in this body of work. Black and white affords the viewer with the experience of imagining their own color palette and to picture these images from their own memories.

The creation of this current series “Restored Treasures ~ Forgotten Relics” is done with a self -taught dry brushing technique using powdered graphite as a medium. This process allows him to explore the subtlety of light and shadows that breathe life into these graphic renderings.

These illustrations are a journey back in time, to an age of long forgotten machines and reflections of long forgotten machines, restored to their former glory once again to grace our lives.

It is a blending of two loves Art and Machinery.

Michael has been associated with the graphic arts world for over forty years and is currently serving on the board of Choose Cohoes for Art. He has won national awards for textile printing and more recently national and international awards for his Graphite Illustrations.
